LIBERTY PLAZA PROJECT
The town of Fishers, Indiana, a suburb of state capital Indianapolis, will shortly unveil a striking city monument in celebration of liberty and honoring those who help preserve it.
Spearheaded by the Fishers Chamber of Commerce and the Economic & Community Development Commission, the Fishers Liberty Plaza Project is set for completion by the end of 2013. The large, walkable monument will be located directly in front of Fishers Town Hall on the same lawn where many community events and festivals take place, such as the Fishers Concert Series.
The structure of the monument is built on a graceful spiral of rectangular blocks that rise up in ever increasing heights from a large round base. Perched on the top of the highest element is a golden eagle; an American flag soars overhead on a large flagpole.
When all is said and done, the large monument will have cost about $350,000. Funds for the Liberty Plaza Project are coming in from every direction of the town, from Fishers Businesses to non-profit organizations and individuals. All are inspired by the monument itself, as well as the opportunity to create a lasting tribute from the entire Fishers community to those who have served in the cause of liberty, both close at home and abroad.
